Octopus. OCTOPUS!

The Octopus.
Everybody's favourite mollusc.
And if it's not it should be.
Here's why:
Octopi are supper intelligent, they have been shown to posses both long term and short term memory.  They have a very complex nervous system which is centred in the brain but over two thirds of their neurones are in the legs.
Oh yeah and they have three hearts...
They can manipulate the shape of their body's  and the colour of their epidermis to disguise them selves as pretty much what ever they like.
They can shoot ink at you to escape and drop their limbs when ever they like..
And they can taste anything their suckers touch

Obviously I'm not the only one that like these eight legged molluscs, scientists are extra nice to them too.
Unlike other invertebrates it is against the law to operate on them with out anaesthetic.
And they are 'honorary vertebrates' in the animal cruelty legislation.

Caww Caww It's a crow.

I like crows, they're my favourite bird, this is because they're awesome!
Crows are super intelligent, they can learn to count to three and associate the actual digits with the value.
And like parrots they can learn to say simple phrases of language, this puts them on par with dolphins and higher apes.
They can even use tools.
And a group of crows is called a murder.

I hope you enjoyed my short blog on Corvidae.

Glaucus atlanticus is a bad boy!

This pretty looking thing is a type of marine slug known commonly as a Blue Dragon sea slug (among many other things)
And yes I know it looks like kyogre from pokemon.
I like this animal because as well as being pretty,it can kill you through your skin!
It achieves this by eating primarily poisonous jelly fish (well Portuguese man'o war which isn't technically a jelly fish.) and reusing the toxins for it's own gains.

Just so you know what you are looking at is it's underside, it floats just under the surface of the water using an air sack that makes it flip upside-down.

Platypuses are awesome!

Today kids I'm going to talk to you about platypuses, these animals a the best kind of animal, do you know why? You can talk about them and people will at least to pretend to seem interested, which will increase you confidence and overall benefit you.
That's right! Platypuses are good for you!
Here is some interesting facts about platypuses for you:
When first found scientists believed that the specimen presented was an elaborate hoax stitched together from a duck and an otter or something.
Males are also venomous. They have sharp stingers on the heels of their rear feet and can use them to sting you like a bitch.
Folds of skin cover their eyes and ears to prevent water from entering, and the nostrils close with a watertight seal.
They also lay eggs which is unusual as they are mammals.
Unlike most other mammals they don't have nipples, instead they leak the milk through the skin on there underside.

So here you go kids, use these facts to wow your friends and stuff.
